What's new in the next InfoPath version?

A recurring feature that customers have asked for is the ability to fill out InfoPath forms (not design them) without requiring InfoPath on the client machines.

Well, the good news is we'll be closer to this functionality in the next Office version (codenamed "Office 12") !

As mentioned on the Microsoft Watch website , Chris Capossela demonstrated the very first demo of InfoPath 12 and more specifically the ability to fill out an InfoPath form inside a single web browser.

Whether or not this feature will be available in an hypothetical InfoPath Forms Server or with SharePoint Portal Server "12" is unclear right now, but at least we now know that this feature will be available in some way or another.

By the way, these news should leave some room for our existing partners (such as InfoView, InfoJet Soft, open-source projects...) for customers who don't want or can't afford buying SPS or an InfoPath Forms Server...

Une des questions particulièrement fréquentes que l'on me pose en clientèle (mais aussi parfois chez Microsoft même !) est la suivante : doit-on avoir InfoPath 2003 pour remplir ou simplement visualiser un formulaire InfoPath? Je prends alors souvent un air embarrassé avant de répondre simplement : Oui... (notons cependant qu'il est possible d'exporter un formulaire InfoPath vers une vue HTML mais l'on perd alors les références XML).

Cependant, il existe un certain nombre d'outils permettant de convertir des formulaires InfoPath vers des formulaires web, certains gratuits (enfin, un seul vraiment, à ma connaissance), d'autres commerciaux. Sans vouloir rentrer dans les limitations de chacun de ces produits (et il y en a !), le but de cet article est au moins de les lister (sans que je m'engage à ce que ma liste soit exhaustive - aidez-moi donc à la compléter si nécessaire !) :

6. Solution InfoJet dévéloppée par InfoJetSoft (http://www.infojetsoft.com ). Très bonne solution que je vous recommande, même s'il faut installer le JDK et Tomcat avant que ça marche... Je n'ai pas testé l'interopérabilité avec .NET, mais devant la qualité du produit, j'ai confiance !
